Summary:
This is an album of airs and soundscapes. Riley and I have performed together for over 11 years and Riley’s meditative approach to phrasing, has given me a fresh interpretation of the music that I grew up with. The harp is an integral part of Ireland’s rich oral history. While these airs were largely sourced from the golden era of harping in the 17th Century, many of the melodies harken back to even older times, giving them a sense of timelessness.
The unique timbre of harp and shakuhachi inspired us to ‘paint’ the sounds of the natural world. While listening, we invite you to imagine yourself swimming above a kelp forest, standing next to a mountain stream, or simply contemplating the everchanging hues of twilight.
In producing Golden Kelp, my passion for things under the water, led me to take a pledge to bring awareness to the Great Southern Reef.
