Water quality has since been restored to its natural oligotrophic state, with annual average levels of NO3, NH4, and PO4 all below 1 μM (ARPAL data 2016–2022, Table S1). Further, direct human impacts have been removed with the establishment of the MPA in 1997. Yet, the rocky coast continues to be dominated by mixed coralline turfs and short (<12 cm frond length), fragmented stands of Cystoseira compressa (unpubl. quadrat data 2018–2019 and De La Fuente et al., 2018); the continued absence of E. amentacea is likely linked to limited dispersal ability (Clayton, 1990; Johnson and Brawley, 1998)."},"reasons":[{"__typename":"Platform_Reason","id":"65d594511368b052bf6ffa3f","name":"Water Pollution","slug":"water-pollution","openGraph":{"id":"openGraph_reason/water-pollution","title":"Water Pollution","description":null,"image":null}}],"place":{"__typename":"Platform_Place","id":"6a1e60ed3d26cc88fe749d64","name":"Punta Mesco","latitude":44.134153,"longitude":9.636139},"organisation":{"__typename":"Platform_Organisation","id":"6a1e62003d26cc88fe749d70","name":"University of Genoa","slug":"university-of-genoa","openGraph":{"id":"openGraph_organisation/university-of-genoa","title":"University of Genoa","description":null,"image":null}},"organisations":[{"__typename":"Platform_Organisation","id":"6a1e62003d26cc88fe749d70","name":"University of Genoa","slug":"university-of-genoa","openGraph":{"id":"openGraph_organisation/university-of-genoa","description":null,"title":"University of Genoa","image":null},"country":null}],"motivations":[{"__typename":"Platform_Motivation","id":"65d5944a1368b052bf6ff8e2","name":"Answering Scientific Questions","slug":"answering-scientific-questions","openGraph":{"id":"openGraph_motivation/answering-scientific-questions","title":"Answering Scientific Questions","description":{"id":"65d5944a1368b052bf6ff8e2_description","text":"Restoring an ecosystem system can also create the opportunity to conduct scientific research and answer questions about kelp forests grow, respond to their environment, and interact with the many other seaweeds and animals that share the ocean with them."},"image":null}},{"__typename":"Platform_Motivation","id":"65d5944a1368b052bf6ff8e4","name":"Improving Methodologies","slug":"improving-methodologies","openGraph":{"id":"openGraph_motivation/improving-methodologies","title":"Improving Methodologies","description":{"id":"65d5944a1368b052bf6ff8e4_description","text":"Restoration is a technical process and we are still determining the best approaches to restore kelp forests, your restoration project may be motivated by the desire to refine your methods and learn more about how to effectively conduct restoration."},"image":null}}],"contact":null,"citation":{"__typename":"Platform_Citation","id":"6a1e61a23d26cc88fe749d6a","slug":"ex-situ-restoration-of-the-mediterranean-forest-forming-macroalga-ericaria-amentacea-optimizing-growth-in-culture-may-not-be-the-key-to-growth-in-the-field","url":"https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0141113624003799","name":"Ex-situ restoration of the Mediterranean forest-forming macroalga Ericaria amentacea: Optimizing growth in culture may not be the key to growth in the field","authors":[],"authorShowsEtAl":null,"edition":null,"publication":"Clausing, R.
